Wellness is defined as a person having full knowledge and making decisions that are satisfactory and gratifying life. Wellness is not just about being free of diseases and illness, it involves both physical and mental and social wellbeing. It is one realizing of their true abilities and potential to live a healthy, gratifying, more stable and composed life. It is the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
Having a maximum level of wellness is very important to living a better quality life. Wellness is important to us because it affects our actions and feelings which are all related to our wellbeing. It is therefore critical and important for every individual to achieve maximum wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce risks of illness and ensure positive interactions. There are eight dimensions of wellness; occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, social and intellectual. All scopes of wellness are interrelated with each other and have equal roles of attaining good health. Emotional wellness pertains understanding your feelings and coping with stress well. It is of significance to be attentive when it comes to self-care, reducing stress and relaxing so that one can grow from experiences. It could be defined as the potention to having awareness of our personal feelings, coping with them and not being in denial, looking at alife from a positive perspective despite it always disappointing us. Environmental wellness encourages us to live a lifestyle that respects our surrounding and inspires us to live in harmony and taking care of the environment. This therefore contribute to our interaction with nature and personal surrounding. Spiritual wellness can be expressed through religion and it helps us develop a set of values that allows us seek meaning and purpose in life.
Financial wellness is the process of learning how to manage financial expenses successfully. Financial constraints at most times is the top stress causing factor amongst people. Someone having financial stabilities are at most times happy with life and satisfied compared to their counterparts.
Intellectual wellness is the ability to open up to and appreciate new ideas and contributions when tackling a situation and continual efforts to gain more knowledge.
Occupational wellness involves being happy in your daily activities like in your job and always appreciating your growth and contribution in it. Social wellness is the ability to form relations with other people other than our peers in the society.
Optimal physical wellness is achieved through the combination of beneficial physical activity and healthy eating habits.
